The bedroom is the room where a mural works best: you have a focal wall, the headboard, and it is where you spend the most time with the lights low and a calm atmosphere. With a custom mural, there is no need to cover all four walls: just one is enough to change the entire room. This guide helps you choose the design, the wall, and the measurements.
1. Choose the wall: almost always, the headboard wall
The wall where you rest your bed is the one you see when you enter and the one that is framed by furniture. Covering it with a mural makes the headboard the center of the room without needing to add anything else. If your bed is in the center of a wall, the mural can occupy the entire width or just the area behind it, as if it were a giant headboard.
2. Choose a design that brings you calm
In a bedroom, things that relax usually work better than those that attract too much attention. These are the most popular design categories:
- Landscapes and mountains: they provide depth and a sense of spaciousness. Soft, misty tones are ideal for resting.
- Florals and leaves: they add warmth and naturalness. Large, minimalist designs are elegant; it is best to reserve highly detailed ones for smaller walls.
- Marble and textures: a sober and sophisticated background that doesn't overwhelm, perfect if the rest of your decor already has a lot of color.
- Tropical and palms: for a bedroom with a vacation vibe. Best if the room has good natural light.
- Japanese style and Art Deco: two very different extremes, one minimalist and serene, the other elegant and geometric.
3. Think about color before the pattern
What you notice most when you wake up is the dominant color. As a general reference: cool tones, grays, greens, and blues convey calm; beige, sand, and pink tones add warmth; dark colors, such as bottle green or midnight blue, create a more cozy bedroom. If you have any doubts, the physical sample pack allows you to see the color in your room's light before ordering the entire wall.
4. Calculate the cost
A 2 × 1.5 m headboard is 3 m². With paste-the-wall paper (€47/m²) it is €141; with pre-pasted (€53/m²), €159; and with self-adhesive (€57/m²), €171. If you prefer to cover the entire bed wall, at 3 × 2.5 m (7.5 m²), the range goes from €352.50 to €427.50. You have all the figures in our pricing guide.
5. Measure carefully before ordering
The mural is printed to the exact dimensions of your wall. Measure the width and height at three points and add a 6 to 10 cm margin, as we explain in our guide on how to measure your wall.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to cover the whole wall?
No. You can create a mural of any dimensions you like, from 1 m² up to 4 m high by 7 m wide, for example, just for the headboard area.
Which material is best for a bedroom?
If you are installing it yourself, the self-adhesive is the most convenient. If you are hiring an installer, the paste-the-wall paper is the most economical. We explain this in our materials guide.
Can I see the mural in my bedroom before ordering it?
Yes. If you upload a photo of your wall, we will prepare a free simulation for you via Design your mural.
What if I can't find the design I'm looking for?
We can create it with you: change the hue, colors, add or remove elements, or design it from scratch. Write to us at info@tailormurals.com.
